Small answers for real family life
What to do while you wait for an autism or ADHD assessment
Waiting can feel like living in uncertainty. You do not need a label to notice what feels hard or to ask for practical help.
Step 1
Start with needs, not a conclusion. Note what your child finds difficult and what they say helps. These observations cannot tell you whether they are autistic or have ADHD.
Step 2
Ask school what changes are possible now: clearer instructions, a quieter arrival or a named adult. Agree one small step and a review date.
Step 3
Keep a brief record of everyday situations, with your child’s perspective where possible. Share only what is relevant and comfortable.
Step 4
Choose one small family skill at a time. If needs increase, seek individual advice rather than waiting silently.
Hearth offers wellbeing self-help, not medical care or a crisis service. These ideas are not an assessment and cannot predict what will work for your child.
